Cal Signs Ioanna Krimili For 2023-24 Season

Three-Time All-WCC First-Team Guard Among Nation’s Best 3-Point Shooters

BERKELEY – The California women's basketball team announced the signing of graduate transfer Ioanna Krimili, a three-time All-West Coast Conference first team selection and former WCC Newcomer of the Year for San Francisco, to its roster for the 2023-24 season.

"We are thrilled to have a player the caliber of Ioanna join our circle." Cal head coach Charmin Smith said. "She is a prolific scorer with good size and the ability to create for herself and others. She has a quick release and stretches the floor with her deep range. Most importantly, she believes in what we're building here and wants to be a part of the resurgence of this program."

One of the top 3-point shooters in the country, Krimili comes to Cal with a long list of records and accolades from her time at USF, including ranking fourth all time in the WCC for career 3-pointers made (276) and fifth for single-season 3-pointers made (97 in 2020-21). Both marks top the Dons' career and single-season lists, while her 84 3-point makes in 2022-23 rank second. She has totaled 1,782 points in her career, the fourth most in USF program history.

Krimili started every game she played at USF, totaling 99 games over four seasons with career averages of 18.0 points per game, 2.8 3-pointers made per game on 39.4% shooting, as well as 3.5 rebounds per game and 2.5 assists per game. She has surpassed the 30-point mark 10 times in her career, including four times last season.

"Coach Smith is a passionate competitor that I could not be more grateful for the opportunity to learn from," Krimili said. "She sees me for exactly who I am and her belief in me is unparalleled. I know she will continue to empower me as a Cal Bear to grow as not only a basketball player but as an individual as well. I'm excited about her vision for this program and am thankful to come alongside her in making that vision come true."

As a redshirt junior last season, Krimili averaged 16.6 PPG (fourth in the WCC) and ranked 30th in the country for 3-pointers made. She proved to be one of the nation's best at generating her own shot, as she ranked among the top 15 guards for unassisted 3-point shot attempts. Krimili notched 10 20-point games and had a season-high 35 points and eight 3-pointers against Penn.

Krimili led the WCC in total points and scoring average in each of her first two collegiate seasons with 510 points (18.9 PPG) as a redshirt freshman and 602 points (19.4 PPG) as a redshirt sophomore. She was named the WCC Newcomer of the Year in 2020-21 as she ranked 28th nationally in total points and third among freshmen, trailing only Iowa's Caitlyn Clark and Connecticut's Paige Bueckers. Her 97 3-pointers made as a freshman were the second most nationally, while 3-point percentage (455) ranked sixth. Krimili set a career high with 38 points against Portland as a redshirt sophomore and added a 29-point effort in a win at USC.

A native of Heroklion, Greece, Krimili graduated from Aristotelio College. In high school, she was selected for the All-Tournament Team in the Greek U18 league in May 2019 and was named the 2018-19 Most Improved Player in the Greek senior league, A1. While playing for her U18 Greek national team, Krimili averaged 14.9 PPG, 2.8 RPG and 3.5 APG.
