Six Bears Earn All-MPSF Honors

Inaugural List Recognizes Team Leaders At Conference Championships

SEATTLE – Although California men's gymnastics has a week off before its final appearance of the season, the team still has reason to celebrate as the Mountain Pacific Sports Federation (MPSF) released its All-MPSF list for the first time in history on Monday. Six Golden Bears earned all-conference honors to boost their résumés heading into next weekend's NCAA Championships.

Each member of the list either led hissquad in each event at last weekend's MPSF Championships or collected the next-highest overall score.

Freshman Khalen Curry led the way for Cal in two events – floor and vault – becoming one of seven gymnasts to earn multiple All-MPSF honors. His floor score of 13.700 last Saturday was a personal best, while he previously set a program record (now No. 3) on vault with a score of 14.700 in February.

Senior Noah Sano earned conference honors on pommel horse with his routine worth 13.200. He twice posted scores of 13.950 earlier this season for the seventh-best mark in the program record book and earned MPSF Specialist of the Week award after the season opener. Sano also contributed to team pommel horse scores that ranked fifth and second in Cal history, respectively, in two straight weeks.

Junior Chris Scales matched his personal best rings score at the MPSF Championships to earn an All-MPSF nod, reaching 13.450 at the Air Force Academy for the second time this season (previous: Feb. 11). Freshman Theodor Gadderud, who was named All-MPSF on parallel bars, achieved his own personal best in the event on Feb. 11 by reaching a score of 14.000. Gadderud also contributed to the sixth-best team parallel bars score in history on Jan. 28 at Stanford.

After sitting out most of the season due to injury, sophomore Landon Wu led the way for Cal on horizontal bar at the championships, continuing his pattern of success in Colorado; on the Bears' previous trip to the Air Force Academy, he tied his own personal best with a score of 13.250. Sophomore Tyler Shimizu was the last Cal gymnast on the All-MPSF list, posting a personal best all-around score of 76.550 in his second collegiate six-event competition.
