Bears Take On Oregon, Stanford In Pac-12 Tournament
Cal Makes Return To Conference Tournament As Ninth Seed
BERKELEY – The California baseball team begins postseason play on Tuesday when the Golden Bears take on No. 6 seed Oregon in the opening round of pool play in the Pac-12 Baseball Tournament. The Bears and Ducks will be the third game of the day and are scheduled to begin at 7 p.m. PT at Scottsdale Stadium. Cal wraps up pool play Wednesday by taking on No. 1 seed Stanford, which is also scheduled to begin at 7 p.m. PT. Roxy Bernstein and Wes Clements will have the call for both games on Pac-12 Network.
Cal (24-26, 12-18 Pac-12) is coming off an explosive road series victory over No. 24 Washington. The Bears slugged 11 home runs over the weekend and secured their spot in the Pac-12 Tournament with a 16-11 victory over the Huskies on Saturday. Oregon (33-20, 16-14 Pac-12) is fresh off a conference series win over Utah on the road. The Ducks lost eight of their previous nine games before winning Friday and Saturday. Stanford (37-14, 23-7 Pac-12) is coming off a road sweep over Washington State, culminating with a lopsided 15-5 win over the Cougars in the regular season finale.

- The Bears enter this week with an overall record of 24-26; they have gone 6-4 over their last 10, which includes a road series victory over No. 24 Washington in the final weekend of the season.
- The Bears return to the Pac-12 Baseball Tournament for the second time; this time they are the No. 9 seed.
- Cal hit seven home runs against the Cougars last weekend, giving them 73 for the year which ranks fifth in the Pac-12 and 62nd in the nation.
- Cal is 1-2 in neutral site games this season - those three contests came at the Frisco Classic in Frisco, Texas on Mar. 3-5. The Bears hit .250 (24-for-96) with seven doubles and five home runs in those games and averaged 8.3 runs per game.. On the mound, Cal's pitching staff sports a 4.88 ERA and has held opponents to a .253 batting average.
- The Bears won their third road Pac-12 series over the weekend, taking two of three from No. 24 Washington (other series wins were at Utah and a series sweep over UCLA). The last time the Bears won a series on the road against a top-25 team came last March when the Bears took a series from No. 25 USC at Dedeaux Field.
- Cal clubbed 11 home runs last weekend over Washington and 20 of its 29 runs scored game via the home run. Cal has hit 30 home runs in the month of May.
- The trio of Caleb Lomavita (15) Rodney Green Jr. (14), and Kade Kretzschmar (13) has hit 42 combined home runs; with two more runs they will be the most prolific home run trio in the Mike Neu era, surpassing Andrew Vaughn (23), Jonah Davis (14) and Sam Wezniak (6), who hit 43 combined home runs in 2018.
- Over the last 10 games, starter Paulshawn Pasqualotto has gone 3-0 with a 3.94 ERA. Relief pitcher Tyler Stasiowski has been the most reliable pitcher out of the pen – making four appearances with a 1.64 ERA.
SERIES HISTORY VS. OREGON
- Tuesday will be the 71st time the Bears and Ducks have tangled. All-time, Oregon owns a 37-32 advantage in the series that dates back to Mar. 18, 1963. Since Oregon resumed playing baseball in 2009, Cal is 18-24 against the Ducks. Under head coach Mike Neu, the Bears are 6-9 against Oregon. Earlier this year, the Ducks took two of three against the Bears in Berkeley, winning game one 5-4 and game three 9-3. Cal took the middle game of the series 8-6.
SERIES HISTORY VS. STANFORD
- Wednesday is the 513th meeting between the Bears and Cardinal. In five meetings this season, Cal is 1-4 against Stanford but has lost four straight after defeating No. 2 Stanford on Feb. 21 at Sunken Diamond. All time, Stanford owns a 283-236-1 advantage in the series. Under head coach Mike Neu, the Bears are 6-14 against the Cardinal. The last time the teams met, Stanford defeated the Bears 6-5 at the Sunken Diamond. Cal went into the ninth inning leading that contest 5-3 and had the Cardinal down to their final strike when Stanford scored three runs – two coming on a home run from Braden Montgomery to tie the game at 5-5.
