BERKELEY – The third-seeded California women's gymnastics team overcame a slow start on vault to ultimately register the top team score in the semifinals of the NCAA Berkeley Regional on Friday evening at Haas Pavilion.

The Golden Bears finished the session with a team score of 197.800 to advance to Sunday's regional final along with Stanford, which placed second at 197.600.

Cal and Stanford will be joined Sunday by No. 6 Denver and Arizona State, the top two finishers from the other semifinal held Friday afternoon in Berkeley.

The top two finishers in Sunday's regional final will advance to the NCAA Championships April 18-20 in Fort Worth, Texas.

Sophomore eMjae Frazier and junior Mya Lauzon finished second and third, respectively, in the all-around. Frazier scored 9.9 or higher in three of the four rotations and Lauzon tied for first in both the balance beam and vault. Senior Andi Li tied for the win on the uneven bars with a 9.950.

The Bears were in third place after the first rotation, scoring 49.275 on vault, which is tied for their second-lowest score of the season in that event. But Cal surged into second after the next rotation, registering the highest team score of the night on bars with a 49.475. They matched that score on balance beam to move into first place, and ended the night with a flourish, going 9.9 or higher on all five counted scores on the floor exercise.

This marks the third straight season Cal has advanced to the NCAA regional final. The Bears will be looking to advance to the NCAA Championships for the second straight season.
