Passola Folch Reaches NCAA Singles Semifinals
ORLANDO, Fla. – California women's tennis All-American
Berta Passola Folch marched into the semifinals at the NCAA Singles Championship, defeating Kyoka Kubo of Kansas 7-5, 6-2 in Friday's quarterfinal round at the USTA National Campus.
The 113th-ranked Passola Folch will next take on 67th-ranked Emily Welker of Ole Miss on Saturday at a time to be announced.
This is the best start to a season that the senior – who is competing in her first NCAA Singles Championship – has recorded at Cal. Passola Folch (15-3) has won seven straight matches, including all four in Orlando in straight sets. She has lost just one set during her winning streak, which began with a 6-2, 6-7(3), 7-5 victory over Arizona's 122nd-ranked Martyna Ostrzygalo at the ITA West Sectional Championships. The NCAA quarterfinal marked the first time the Spaniard had been pushed to win a set in seven games.
Passola Folch's advance to the semifinals is the Golden Bears' deepest NCAA singles run since alumna Lynn Chi reached the final in 2014.
The first half of the 2025-26 season wraps up Sunday with the NCAA singles and doubles finals at the USTA National Campus.
