A two-time Australian Open champion and current professional player, Rajeev Ram
joined the Cal men's tennis coaching staff in June 2020.
Ranked No. 9 in doubles in the March 16, 2020, ATP rankings, Ram has posted career-best ATP rankings of No. 5 in doubles and No. 56 in singles and has captured singles and doubles titles at numerous levels of the game. In February, the right-hander paired with Joe Salisbury to
win the men's doubles championship at the 2020 Australian Open. Ram posted his first Grand Slam triumph in 2019 when he partnered with
Barbora Krejcíková to
win the mixed doubles title at the Australian Open.
The product of Denver, Colorado, and Carmel, Indiana, collected two ATP World Tour singles titles when he won at the Hall of Fame Open in Newport, Rhode Island, in 2009 and 2015. In the 2016 Olympics in Brazil,
Ram teamed with Venus Williams to claim the silver medal in mixed doubles, and in 2003 he led Illinois to the NCAA team championship and paired with Brian Wilson to win the NCAA doubles crown.
After leaving Illinois to embark on his long pro career, Ram - while continuing to play - returned to the (virtual) classroom in 2015 as the first player to enroll in a partnership between the ATP Tour and Indiana University East, which assists Tour members in pursuing degrees in higher education online.
Ram graduated from Indiana University East in 2018.
Ram also plays for the
Chicago Smash in
World Team Tennis, after previously competing for the San Diego Aviators in WTT.
