Welcome to Haas Pavilion

Haas Pavilion serves as the home venue for Cal’s men’s and women’s basketball, men’s and women’s gymnastics, and volleyball programs. Below is a list of useful information to help make your event-day experience an enjoyable one.

*New for 2018-19: Metal Detectors

All patrons entering Haas Pavilion will be required to walk through metal detectors at the entrances to the venue. Please plan to arrive early enough to allow for this new security step and to ensure that you are in your seat and ready for your event on time.

Tickets

To purchase tickets to an event at Haas Pavilion, visit the Cal tickets page on CalBears.com, call (800) GO BEARS (462-3277) or contact your Gold Standard service representative.

Office hours for the Cal Athletic Ticket Office are 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday through Friday, and the Haas Pavilion Box Office operates two hours prior to event start times.

Everyone 24 months and older must have a ticket to the game. Haas Pavilion has a “No Re-Entry” policy.

Clear Bag Policy

110715 Designed to enhance safety and security for fans attending games at Haas Pavilion, Cal has implemented a clear bag policy, which defines the size and type of bags that may be brought inside for events. Exceptions will be made for patrons with diaper bags or medical needs. The policy mirrors that of many other professional and collegiate venues across the country. Cal Athletics offers a bag check located at the entrance to Spieker Aquatics Complex next to the Haas Pavilion ticket office (men’s basketball games only).

Bag check closes 30 minutes after the end of the event. Items that are not picked up will be delivered to UCPD station at Sproul Hall.

Building Information

ADA Seating: Located on levels 1, 3 and 4.

ATMs: ATM machines are on the first floor near gate 1 and on the third floor near section 12.

Cal Team Store: In the front lobby and on the third floor near section 12 (men’s basketball games only). At other times and for all other events, fans are encouraged to visit the Cal Student Store one block uphill along Bancroft Way. For more information, including store hours, see the store website.

Club Rooms: Patrons must have Haas Club Room or Courtside Club tickets to enter club areas (men’s basketball games only).

Concessions: On levels 1, 2 and 3. Concession stands accept cash, as well as credit and debit cards.

Elevator: In the northwest corner of the pavilion.

Game Programs: Sold at the Cal Team Store. Roster sheets are available at various locations on the first level.

Gates: Gates open 1 hour before the event start times.

Lost and Found: At guest services next to the Courtside Club off the main lobby on the first level.

Restrooms: On the east and west sides of the building on levels 1 and 2, and on the north and south sides on level 3.

Student Gate: Students must enter Haas Pavilion through gate 6.

Will Call: Will call for student-athlete and coaches guests, recruits and media is located at gate 1 to the left of the main entrance to Haas Pavilion.

Cal Athletics wants all fans to enjoy Golden Bear games in a safe and enjoyable environment and has compiled the following list of permitted and prohibited items inside Haas Pavilion. The following information is subject to change.

Fan Code of Conduct

Cal Athletics is committed to serving our fans by providing a safe, comfortable and enjoyable gameday experience and has developed the following Fan Code of Conduct:

The following actions are prohibited:

Any action that disrupts other guests' enjoyment of the game
Possession of any item listed on the "Prohibited Items List"
Use of foul, abusive, or obscene language or gestures
Fighting, taunting, or threatening remarks or gestures
Intoxication or signs of impairment related to alcohol or drug use
Fans that appear to be inebriated and unmanageable will not be permitted admittance into the stadium and may be subject to arrest.
Failure to follow the directions of law enforcement or stadium management
Sitting in a seat other than one's ticketed seat location
Engaging in action that causes a disruption or interferes with the game
Refusal to remove clothing deemed offensive or obscene
Smoking and/or tobacco use

Note: Although season-ticket holders may provide their tickets to others, the account holder of record is responsible for the actions of those using their tickets.

Failure to follow this code may result in ejection from the facility, revocation of ticket privileges and/or arrest.

Directions

Haas Pavilion is located along Bancroft Way at the intersection with Dana Street. A campus map can be found here.

Parking

Fans are encouraged to use public transportation when attending events on campus. The Downtown Berkeley BART station is located three blocks west of Haas Pavilion, and AC Transit buses service Bancroft Way near Haas Pavilion.

Two city-owned parking garages area within walking distance to Haas Pavilion:

Nearby campus parking lots are reserved for season-ticket holders with season parking permits for men’s basketball games. For all other events, check lot availability and pricing at the lot entrance. About Haas Pavilion

On the same site where beloved Harmon Gym stood for more than 60 years, the Walter A. Haas Jr. Pavilion has risen as a state-of-the-art sports facility that retains the old building's famous spirit.

The current basketball arena, the centerpiece of the $57.5 million project, opened in the fall of 1999 and has 11,877 seats - almost twice the capacity of its predecessor. And although the structure is 37 feet taller and 28 feet wider than Harmon, it continues to keep fans close to the action.

Haas Pavilion is very much an assertion of Cal's commitment to athletics - from the administration and faculty, down through the alumni who made the entire project possible.

When the construction of Haas was first proposed, alumni and fans wanted to ensure that the intimidating homecourt advantage Harmon provided could be maintained in a building twice its size. Haas was created specifically with this in mind.

Consequently, sound-baffling devices were omitted intentionally, and student seating has doubled from 1,300 seats in Harmon to 2,600 seats in Haas, with about 900 courtside. In an attempt to keep Haas as intimate as Harmon, designers built the arena with the last row of seats just 88 feet from the floor. Nearly 2,000 club seats with chair backs have been installed in the arena. Fans also enjoy wider corridors and a quadrupling of the number of restrooms and concession areas. The arena features two high-resolution video boards, more than 50 television monitors throughout the building and a team store. The elegant Haas Club Room, which overlooks Evans Baseball Diamond, provides a spacious banquet area.

Cal student-athletes are also able to take advantage of new and expanded locker rooms, as well as the pavilion's weight room and athletic training facility. In addition, the facility houses Athletic Department administrative and coaches offices.

The idea of a new building to replace the aging Harmon Gym, which was built in 1933, first surfaced in the mid-1970s under then-Athletic Director Dave Maggard. During the next 20 years, a number of studies were done to determine the feasibility of a multitude of options.

Most people pushed for a renovation of Harmon, considering all the tradition already rooted there. Former Athletic Director John Kasser, who served from 1994-2000, strongly agreed that this was the proper course of action and he set about drumming up support from the administration, faculty and alumni.

When Walter A. Haas Jr. and his wife, Evelyn, generously donated the lead gift of $11 million, the project suddenly became a reality. Cal alumni supported the renovation in an unprecedented manner. Of the $57.5 million final price tag, $41 million came from private gifts, with $16.5 million coming from a combination of revenues from the Athletic Department, a campus seismic safety fund and miscellaneous income funds.

Construction on Haas Pavilion began just after the final game at Harmon in March 1997 and finished in time for the start of the 1999-2000 basketball season.
