A dominant pass rusher off the edge, Andre Carter capped his Cal career in 2000 with a senior season that included 13 sacks, a career-high 59 tackles and 36 quarterback pressures, earning him unanimous All-American honors, the Morris Trophy as the Pac-10's top defensive lineman, and finalist status for the Bronko Nagurski Award as the nation's top defensive player. A two-time first-team All-Pac-10 selection (1999-2000), he was also named the Bears' team MVP as a senior after a junior campaign that landed him on the All-Pac-10 second team. Carter was selected seventh overall by the San Francisco 49ers in the 2001 NFL Draft, launching a 13-year NFL career that spanned five teams and included 517 tackles, 80.5 sacks and 18 forced fumbles. He earned a Pro Bowl selection in 2011 with the New England Patriots, highlighted by a four-sack performance against the Jets that tied the franchise's single-game sack record.
