California Athletics Hall of Fame
The heart and soul of Cal basketball for four seasons, Jorge Gutierrez became the first player in conference history to sweep the Pac-12 Player of the Year and Defensive Player of the Year awards in the same season, doing so as a senior in 2012 while averaging 13 points, 5.3 rebounds and 4.1 assists. A first-team All-Pac-12 selection as both a junior and senior, he was also a three-time Pac-12 All-Defensive Team honoree who ranked among the program's career leaders in steals across his 130 games played. A native of Chihuahua, Mexico, Gutierrez was the first recruit signed by head coach Mike Montgomery at Cal and became known as one of the hardest-working players in the program's history. He went on to play professionally, including NBA stints with the Brooklyn Nets and Milwaukee Bucks, and later built a coaching career, including with the Long Island Nets of the NBA G League.
