Inducted into the college tennis hall of fame in 1995, Thomas Brown, Jr., was a finalist in the 1943 NCAA singles tournament, losing to Miami's Francisco Segura. He was also an NCAA double finalist (with Harry Buttimer), falling to Texas' John Hickman and Walter Driver, and as a professional was a finalist in Wimbledon singles (losing to Jack Kramer) in 1947. He became a Wimbledon doubles champion with Kramer in 1946. Also in 1946, Brown was a finalist for the U.S. singles title, and he later won U.S. hard court singles (1957-58) and doubles titles (1950, ’52 and ’53). He was a member of the U.S. Davis Cup team in 1946, ’50 and ‘53, scoring the only U.S. point in the 1950 Challenge Round against Australia at Forest Hill (over Ken McGregor 9-11, 8-10, 11-9, 6-1, 6-4). Brown ranked in the top 10 in the United States eight times between 1946 and 1958.
