In a steady rain on Kehoe Field the California field hockey team (6-1) took its fifth straight win in a 3-2 overtime victory against Georgetown (3-4). Regional All-American, Nora Feddersen, scored her second goal of the season to give the Golden Bears the edge over the Hoyas two and a half minutes into overtime.
Sophomore Maggie Grimes scored the first goal of the game, her second of the season, before Georgetown's Jessica Quinn responded five seconds later to tie the game at one goal apiece. Senior Lisa D'Anjou began the second half with a quick goal after two minutes of playing to score what looked like the game-winning shot. With only six minutes remaining in regulation time, Jessica Quinn fired another past Bear goalkeeper, Kelly Knapp, who before this game had allowed only three goals past her between the pipes, to tie the game, 2-2. Feddersen zipped the game-winning shot by Georgetown goalie, Jessica Herring at 72:24, off of a corner.
Knapp, who currently is in the top-five in the nation in save percentage (.902), recorded five saves in the win and Georgetown's Jessica Herring accumulated nine in the effort, seven in the first half alone.
California plays its second of three games while on the East Coast tomorrow, Friday, Sept. 27 at 6 p.m. (ET) against No. 18 Virginia at University Hall Turf Field in Charlottesville, VA.
