California has gone 3-0 against Arizona in the last two WCWS (all were elimination games). Cal defeated Arizona in the championship game last season, 6-0, and won both games today. Cal lost its first four all-time WCWS meetings with Arizona prior to last season's title game.

A key for Cal in its two meetings with Arizona today was shutting down Wildcat All-American Lovie Jung. Coming into Game 11, Jung was hitting .667 (4-for-6) with two RBIs in the 2003 WCWS. Cal held Jung to a 1-for-6 performance at the plate today. Jung was hitting .722 (13-for-18) in the 2003 postseason coming into Sunday, but her average dropped to .583 (14-for-24) after the facing the Bears.

As a team, Arizona hit just .179 (12-for-67) against Cal pitcher Kelly Anderson today. Anderson held the Wildcats to just two earned runs in 19 innings of work today.

The home team is now just 4-9 in the 2003 WCWS (Arizona was home against Cal in Game 13).

Anderson has been a workhorse for the Golden Bears during the postseason, throwing 60 of the team's 68 innings. Anderson has allowed just five earned runs and has a 7-1 postseason record.

Cal was swept by Arizona in three Pac-10 regular season meetings by a combined score of 14-5.

Arizona freshman starting pitcher Alicia Hollowell walked a career-high eight batters in both Games 11 and 13 today. Six were of the intentional variety to California first baseman Veronica Nelson. The eight walks marked a WCWS single-game record and Hollowell walked 21 during the series, which is a WCWS individual record (it broke Christa Williams' previous mark of 15 for UCLA in 1997).

Cal's Nelson walked in seven of 10 plate appearances (six were intentional walks) against Hollowell over two games today. Nelson belted a two-run homer in the fifth inning of the second meeting for her 13th blast of the season and the 55th of her career. She moved into the ninth spot on the NCAA career list by passing Nicole Myers of Florida Atlantic (1999-02) with the homer.

Arizona freshman All-American Alicia Hollowell finished the season with a 40-5 record, while the Wildcats concluded the season at 56-7. Hollowell threw 97 percent (57-of-59) of Arizona's postseason innings and registered 45 strikeouts in 32.1 WCWS innings.

Home runs by Cal's Nelson and Kaleo Eldredge in Game 13 upped the new WCWS home run record to 19. Arizona, which suffered back-to-back WCWS losses for only the third time in their 16 apperances, was the only team in the field without a home run. The last time Arizona lost back-to-back games in a WCWS was in 1989 when they exited the tournament after three games.
