BERKELEY - The California field hockey team (9-7, 5-1 NorPac) fell to No. 10 Michigan (10-6, 2-3 Big Ten), 3-2 in an overtime thriller on Saturday afternoon in Berkeley.

On Senior Day for the Bears, Cal jumped out to an early lead with a goal by Teela Crosthwaite; Jenna Long and Valentina Godfrid were credited with the assist. In the final ten minutes of the first period, the Wolverines answered with a goal scored by Kristen Tiner off a penalty corner.

Both team played a defensively sound second period, with the only scoring in the final five minutes of regulation. Michigan scored first, with a goal by Mary Fox. In the last minute of the second period, sophomore Jenny Crane tapped in a Godfrid pass to tie the game, sending the game into overtime. In the sudden death overtime period, Michigan's Lucia Belassi scored off a quick shot five minutes into overtime.

Defensively for Cal, goalkeeper Veronica Sykes had three saves. With one save coming in each period.

The Bears travel across the Bay to wrap-up their regular season at Stanford, on Oct. 29. Game time is set for 1:00 p.m. (PDT).
