Cal-San Jose State Postgame Quotes

Nov. 30, 2005

Recap |  Box Score

California Head Coach Ben Braun

On Forward Leon Powe's return:

"I thought the positive was getting Leon Powe back on the floor, and he really didn't waste any time getting into the game. Sometimes when Leon is back, we have a tendency to watch him and we all need to get back into the flow of the game."

"To come back in his first game and get a double-double was great. He wants to show that he's an all-around player. He wants to help his team win and that's not reflected in just points and rebounds."

On Cal's overall play:
"A lot of our breaks tonight came off the defensive end. It's got to be about defense and rebounding."

"We've got to move the ball. We were settling for shots early. The San Jose State kids really played their hearts out and played with a lot of determination out there."

San Jose State Head Coach George Nessman

On Cal being such a powerful team:

"Cal is an outstanding team, they will contend for the Pac-10 title. It's always hard to come to Haas Pavilion; they have one of the best records on the West Coast in the past six or seven years."

On San Jose State's play tonight:
"I thought our guys battled, we were right there, we just missed free throws. We converted one or two transition plays and it just got away from us. I am not discouraged by our effort; there was a lot of good effort out there, a lot of good signs. We made some shots and we improved over last night, and our guys have a fine spirit. It's about us getting better, that's what it has always been about. We just have to stay on that course and stay after it."

On stretches in the game where SJSU played better offensively and defensively than Cal:
"There were two periods where they got us, the end of the fist half they made three three's, tie game to a nine point lead and we didn't counter any of those. With about 10 minutes to go, we were down five or six, we were right there and they made a little run to eleven and that is when we missed a bunch of free throws. They are a good team and they are coached by a great coach. They are hard to beat here."
