Recap |  Box Score

California Head Coach Ben Braun

Our players were hungry. They've been a group willing to learn. It's not easy when you have two physical teams going at each other. I told Leon Powe that this was one of the best games he's played for us. He made our team better by getting 12 rebounds and passing the ball. It wasn't a typical Leon Powe game offensively.

I can't ask our players to go out and play harder than they played today. Ayinde Ubaka - I can't tell you how much he has improved as a player and a leader. He wanted the ball in his hands, and hit some big free throws. I think his attitude and effort has been tremendous.

UCLA Head Coach Ben Howland

You have to credit Cal. They took it to us physically, they beat us on the glass. We seemed to be a step slow.

Hardin hit some big shots for them. Ubaka played well. I thought Wilkes and Midgley were outstanding. One of our mistakes was missed block-outs. All second shots are huge in a game of this tempo.

They took good shots and they were patient and they shot 52% from the field and 60% from three. I thought Aboya came in and gave us a spark, but we didn't have much of an inside attack.
