Cal Dominates First Two Days of Cal Invitational

BERKELEY - Members of the California women's tennis team advanced to the finals of all four tournaments in the Cal Invitational. The Golden Bears outlasted the rest of the field in the first two days of the tournament on Friday and Saturday, and now the Bears will square off against their teammates in the finals of each bracket Sunday at the Hellman Tennis Center.
The tournament is divided into a gold tournament and a blue tournament, with singles and doubles competitions in both.
Reigning NCAA Singles Champion, Susie Babos will play against reigning Pac-10 Singles Champion senior Zsuzsanna Fodor in the finals of the gold tournament. Fodor beat freshman Nina Henkel in the semifinals (6-7(5);6-1;6-1). Babos reached the finals with a victory against teammate Stephanie Kusano (6-3;4-6;6-3).
Henkel will get another crack at Fodor on Sunday in the gold doubles finals. The team of Fodor and Babos square off against Henkel and Daron Moore.
The singles and doubles finals in the blue tournament will also feature Bears. All four competitors in the semifinals of the singles tournament were from Cal. Cristina Visico defeated Moore (6-4; 6-0) and Claire Ilcinkas beat Bojana Bobusic (6-3; 6-1).
Ilcinkas and Bobusic will team together in the finals of the blue doubles tournament against Marion Ravelojaona and Kusano.
The Cal Invitational resumes Sunday morning at 9 a.m. at the Hellman Tennis Center.
