GOLD RIVER - For the second straight competition, No. 2 California women's crew was the only team to sweep all finals it competed in, as the Golden Bears won five finals in the second day of the Lake Natoma Invitational Sunday in Gold River, Calif. Cal was the top team overall in the two-day event. The Bears defeated No. 3 Stanford and No. 13 Washington State in three of the five finals.

"It was good to see the team race today, and all the Cal crews were impressive," head coach Dave O'Neill. "We need to be more consistent and cleaner in the things we do well while minimizing the weakness, but it looks like we're heading in that direction, especially for this time of year."

The varsity 8+ picked up its third victory of the weekend, topping the Cardinal by six seconds, 6:24.7-6:30.6. The second varsity 8+ also beat Stanford to the finish line, 6:35.5-6:40.9.

The varsity 4+ defeated Washington State, 7:25.3-7:30.6, and the novice 8+ crossed the finish line six seconds before the Cougars, 6:48.9-6:54.9.

The only race over the weekend that Cal did not win was by the second novice 8+ yesterday morning. The Cal boat made up for its previous third-place finish by taking first on Sunday, defeating Sacramento State, 7:06.0-7:17.7.

The Bears host Washington next Saturday at Redwood Shores.
