SEATTLE, Wash. -
Cal saw two more school records fall on the second day of the Flotrack Husky Classic Saturday, with senior Chelsea Reilly establishing a new mark in the women's 3000 meters (9:00.86) and senior Linda Oseso breaking the women's weight throw record for the second time this season (62-4.00).
Reilly was nearly 20 seconds below the old record of 9:20.05 set by Deborah Maier in 2010. On Saturday, Reilly took second behind Kim Conley of SRA Elite, who won in a meet-record 8:57.62. Reilly was also under the old meet mark, in addition to being well below the NCAA automatic qualifying standard. Based on results entering the weekend, her time ranks third among NCAA Division I runners this season.
Oseso set her mark on her first attempt of the day. She first set the record in the season-opening Cherry & Silver Invitational in Albuquerque, N.M., when she went 60-9.50. She came up one inch short of the mark in her second meet, the UW Invitational, at the end of January, giving her three results over 60 feet in 2012. Oseso entered the year with a best of 59-1.50.
The performances by Reilly and Oseso gave the Bears three school records at the meet. On Friday, Deborah Maier ran the fifth-fastest collegiate 5000m ever when she was clocked in a school-record 15:29.24.
In the men's invitational 3000m, Collin Jarvis moved up to second on Cal's all-time performer list with his mark of 7:55.11. The time was a four-second PR and stands only behind Michael Coe's school record of 7:48.05 from 2009.
Chad Jones hit the 50-foot distance in the triple jump, going 50 feet even on his sixth attempt to set a new PR, and Derek White moved his personal-best to 61-11.75 in the weight throw, a five-inch improvement from two weeks ago.
Sofia Oberg, who set a Cal record in the mile in her most recent outing, established an indoor PR in the 800m, taking sixth in the invitational race in 2:05.36. The time was less than a second off the NCAA automatic standard for the event (2:04.50 for the oversized track).
In other events, freshman Dash Oliver also lowered his PR to 7.00 from 7.03 in the 60m, while in the women's 60, Carisma Lyday reached the final where she recorded a lifetime-best 7.69.
The Bears take next week off before returning to Seattle for the MPSF Championships Feb. 24-25.
