June 9, 2012

DES MOINES, Iowa - Results | Chelsea Reilly concluded her collegiate career with a ninth-place finish in the women's 5000 meters at the NCAA Championships Saturday, giving the Cal senior her highest showing ever in an individual event at a national meet.

With a slow pace set from the start at the Drake Stadium facility, Reilly ran in the pack through the first 4000 meters. The pace quickened with a little over two laps to go as runners battled for the lead. Dartmouth's Abby D'Agostino edged Megan Goethals of Washington by 0.03 seconds for the victory, crossing the line in 16:11.37. Reilly completed the race in 16:30.31.

Earlier this year, Reilly earned All-America honors in cross country after taking 24th at the NCAA Championships in the fall. During the indoor season, she anchored Cal's distance medley relay to a 10th-place NCAA finish, while she was 16th in the 3000 meters.

Reilly is the No. 3 performer in Cal history in the 5000 with a best of 15:57.53 from the Payton Jordan Invitational April 29. She also owns school indoor records in the mile (4:41.29) and 3000 meters (9:00.86).
