California Golden Bears - Football

Have you ever wished you had the opportunity to ask head coach Tom Holmoe your most pressing question regarding Cal football? Here's your chance! Each week, one question will be selected for Coach Holmoe to answer on Cal Sports TV Magazine - aired weekly on Fox Sports Bay Area beginning Aug. 31. Not only may your question be answered live on the air, but a Cal Football T-Shirt will be awarded to the person who submits the "Question of the Week"! Additionally, all weekly winners will be entered into a drawing for two Big Game field passes (Cal vs. Stanford, Nov. 18).

Tom Holmoe

For three years, Tom Holmoe has been building the foundation for a successful football program at the University of California.

Now he hopes to reap the benefits of that effort as his team appears poised to establish long-term success in Berkeley.

The signs are hard to mistake. During the Holmoe regime, Cal has developed the Pac-10's most feared defense, a cornerstone of most top college programs. Cal has also put the underpinnings together for a developing offense with a nucleus of three freshman starters in quarterback Kyle Boller, tailback Joe Igber and offensive guard Scott Tercero, which the unit can build around in the future. The program has also established itself as a force on the recruiting front as Holmoe was recently ranked by ESPN as one of the Top 15 recruiting head coaches in college football.

More than any other characteristic, Holmoe has a well-earned reputation as a winner who knows the importance of teamwork and cohesiveness in building success. Since he began playing football as a sophomore in high school, he has been on teams that have won conference championships 19 times in that 25-season span. He can claim three Super Bowl rings with the 49ers in 1984, '88 and '89, in addition to the 1994 title as a secondary coach.
