Samuel Clemons Bio - The University of California Official Athletic Site

A strong-armed quarterback who has the inside track for starting duties this fall ... an intensely dedicated athlete who has worked extremely hard in the off-season, spending as much as six to eight hours a day watching films or working out ... picked up the new offense quickly during the spring and showed excellent command by the end of the drills ... has a rocket arm, but has worked hard on throwing passes with touch ... is a fearless player who isn't afraid to hang in the pocket and take a hit...brings the type of intensity and aggressiveness to the quarterback position that the Cal program hasn't seen since the departure of Mike Pawlawski in 1991.

1998: saw action in four games as a redshirt-freshman ... played in the first half of games against UCLA and USC, with mop-up duty against Nebraska and Arizona State ... most extensive action came against the Bruins when he was in for five series (23 plays) ... completed 1-of-7 passes for minus one yard in that game, but had a 22-yard completion called back due to a holding penalty ... also had a 12-yard scramble for a first down against the Bruins.

1997: came to Cal and redshirted.

High School/Personal: A late-bloomer who captured Cal's attention with a brilliant senior season...signed by the Bears over many higher profile quarterbacks...completed 136 of 209 passes (65 percent) for 2,141 yards and 28 touchdowns with only two interceptions as a senior...in one game, completed 14-of-15 passes for 245 yards and had another when he hit 15-of-19 for 235 yards...earned Sierra Valley Conference Offensive Player of the Year honors in '96...also earned first team All-Metro honors in Sacramento...lettered in three sports (football, basketball and baseball)...recruited by San Diego State, BYU and Oregon, but chose Cal early in the recruiting process...excellent prep baseball player who earned first team league honors as a third baseman ... was offered a full-ride scholarship to play baseball in college...comes from a good football background as grandfather, Raymond Clemons, played four years for the Green Bay Packers and father and two uncles played college football...was very active as a speaker and volunteer in DARE anti-drug programs in high school...parents, Patrick and Victoria Clemons, are both teachers...born Oct. 10, 1978 in Sacramento, CA.
