Cal-Saint Mary's Postgame Notes

With today's 63-59 California victory over Saint Mary's, the Golden Bears improved to 7-0 at Haas Pavilion this season. The Bears are now 62-16 all-time against the Gaels. Today's meeting was the first since a 61-52 Saint Mary's win in 2004-05. The Gaels entered today having won three of the previous four in the series.  

Four Bears hit double figures in scoring, led by 15 from Ivan Rabb. Jabari Bird added 13 points, including a three-pointer in the game's final seconds which proved to be the game winner. Jordan Mathews also scored 13 points and Jaylen Brown added 11.

Cal enjoyed a 17-5 run in the first half after Saint Mary's led, 21-20. The Bears eventually pushed the lead out to 35-23 at one point, the largest lead of the half, before taking a 37-26 lead at the break.

Finishing with 15 points and 11 rebounds, Rabb notched his fourth double-double of the season, and his second in as many games. Through the game's first eight minutes, Rabb scored half of Cal's points. The Bears had 19 first-half rebounds with eight of them coming from Rabb.

Mathews has made at least one three-pointer in each of his last 17 games and in 31 of his past 32. In the first half he shot 100 percent from the field, swishing his three attempts from behind the arc and five field goals. He ended the day with 13 points, six rebounds, two assists and two steals.

Entering the game with 40 blocks, the Bears registered 10 against Saint Mary's. Rabb, who started the game with a team-best 16 blocks, had four while Tyrone Wallace had three.

Cal shot 7-for-13 from the free throw line, while Saint Mary's was 1-for-4.

Points in the paint were an even 28-28.
