Cal-Virginia Postgame Notes

  • Cal played its second overtime game of the season. Cal's first road game also went into OT with the Bears winning at Wyoming, 78-72, on Dec. 5.
  • Cal used the same starters for the sixth game in a row – Jaylen Brown, Ivan Rabb, Kameron Rooks, Tyrone Wallace and Jordan Mathews
  • Jaylen Brown finished with 18 points, his highest total since scoring 27 vs. Richmond on Nov. 27
  • With 10 points, Tyrone Wallace raised his career total to 1,391, moving him into 15th place on Cal's career scoring list. Against Virginia, Wallace passed, Roy Fisher (1988-91, 1,382) and Ansley Truitt (1970-72, 1,384). Next up is Keith Smith, who totaled 1,398 points from 1987-90.
  • Jordan Mathews has made at least one 3-pointer 19 games in a row. He finished tonight's game 4-of-8 from behind the arc. The four 3-pointers are a season-best. It also increased his career total to 138, putting him one away from joining Cal's career top-10 list.
  • Mathews finished with 16 points, the sixth game in a row he has reached double figures.
  • Cal held Virginia to just one field goal over the first 11:46 of the game. For the first half, the Bears limited UVa to just 4-of-22 from the floor (4-22) and outrebounded the Cavaliers, 21-12. For the game, Cal held Virginia to 38.9 percent from the floor and had a 36-30 rebounding advantage.
  • The 20 points scored by Virginia in the first half are a low in a half for a Cal opponent this year. The previous low as 22 by Coppin State in the first half last Saturday.
