Cal-Oregon Postgame Quotes

Head Coach Cuonzo Martin

We had some key breakdowns late. They made three key 3s that I remember. They won the ball for 50-50 loose balls for the most part. We had a couple of key breakdowns that kind of turned the game around. Even those free throws – I think Jaylen missed one and Tyrone missed two – that's part of the game because they missed free throws as well. I just think the key breakdowns cost us down the stretch.

On the team not making a 3-pointer during the game:
I've got to go back at watch film. I don't think anyone took a tough 3 with guys hanging all over them. I don't think that was the case by any stretch. I mean, 0-for-12 from 3 – that's part of the game. Any time (Jordan) Mathews shoots, I think the ball's going in. But I don't think there were any 3s that guys took that were tough and contested off-balance 3s.

On having 18 turnovers:
Normally, when a team presses you that much, you turn the ball over the in the backcourt. We just had bad turnovers, sometimes trying to feed the post, handling the ball, over-handling the ball. We've got to go back and watch each one. But again, it wasn't against the press. In our halfcourt, we didn't execute or make plays, find the right guys, make the right decisions.

Senior Guard Tyrone Wallace

On whether playing the team's first Pac-12 game on the road was a factor:
I don't think the road had anything to do with it. It was one of those nights, we just didn't shoot the ball well. We broke down on defense. We turned the ball over, missed free throws. We've got to get stops down the stretch. A lot of things that we can correct.

On the importance of Saturday's game at Oregon State:
I think it's huge. We can't let a loss linger over to a different game. Oregon State is what we're focused on. We've got to come out and learn from this game tonight, come out and play harder, correct our mistakes. We've just got to play better.

Freshman Forward Jaylen Brown

On the ability of Brown and Ivan Rabb to score down low:
We lost. We've still got to do more. We've still got to produce. We have to find ways to win. We had a rough night. We didn't hit shots. Still, we had every chance in the world to win this game. We came out lackadaisical. We got punched in the mouth. We've just got to hit back.
