TUSCON, Ariz. – The Golden Bears swept Pool A Saturday in the PAC Rugby 7s Championship at Kino Stadium and will face UCLA in a championship semifinal Sunday at 12 p.m. MT to be broadcast on Pac-12 Network.
Utah and Arizona State face off in Sunday's second semifinal, and Pac-12 Network will air the action live from the semis through the championship final, which kicks off at 1:45 p.m. MT.
California (12-1) began its Saturday with a 24-5 win over Oregon and then beat Colorado, 44-0, and the Sun Devils, 40-19, to exit day one at the PAC 7s with tournament-leading differentials of +84 in points and +14 in tries scored.
Eleven different players found the try zone for Cal on Saturday. Captain Russell Webb tied with freshman Christian Dyer as the Bears' leading scorer with 20 points.
"It's all about building on each performance, and I think we did that. To put 28 unanswered points on ASU shows the character we have on our squad," said Webb in reference to the Bears' second-half outburst against Arizona State. "We're going to keep working hard."
Cal will aim to put its very best rugby on the pitch Sunday in an effort to win a fifth consecutive conference 7s title. To do so, the Bears will be tasked to take on two teams, back to back, that rank among the best in the nation.
