Aaron Rodgers Leads Green Bay To Key MNF Win To Cap Golden Bears’ Performances
BERKELEY – Aaron Rodgers threw a pair of first-half touchdown passes and completed 30-of-39 throws for a season-best 76.9% and 313 yards to lead Green Bay to a key 27-13 road victory at Philadelphia on Monday Night Football to wrap up performances by Cal players during Week 12 of the NFL campaign. Rodgers also rushed six times for another 26 yards. The victory snapped a four-game losing streak and kept the 5-6 Packers in the hunt to reach the playoffs for an eighth consecutive campaign.
Nine former Cal football players are on active rosters of teams projected to reach the NFL Playoffs according to NFL.com after Week 12 of the league's action with the list including Stephen Anderson (Houston), Justin Forsett (Detroit), Maurice Harris (Washington), DeSean Jackson (Washington), Marvin Jones (Detroit), L.P. LaDouceur (Dallas), Alex Mack (Atlanta), Mitchell Schwartz (Kansas City) and Nick Sundberg (Washington).
Jones, LaDouceur, Mack and Schwartz all helped their teams to key Week 12 victories.
Jones caught four passes for 54 yards in a 16-13 Detroit victory over Minnesota on Thanksgiving Day to move the Lions one game ahead of the Vikings and remain two ahead of a Packers' squad also featuring former Golden Bears Trevor Davis and Richard Rodgers in the NFC North.
LaDouceur, Mack and Schwartz both extended long streaks in their respective teams' 31-26 home victory over Washington also on Thanksgiving Day and 30-27 overtime win on Sunday Night Football at Denver. Schwartz has started all 75 games possible during his five NFL seasons. Dallas has the NFL's best record and leads the NFC East at 10-1, while Atlanta's 7-4 record is good for a one-game lead on a hot Tampa Bay squad in the NFC South and the Chiefs are 8-3 and one-game behind AFC West-leading Oakland.
Former Golden Bears Bryan Anger and Chris Conte are playing key roles for a Tampa Bay team that has won three in a row to move to 6-5 overall. Others to play for winning teams in Week 12 action included Lorenzo Alexander (Buffalo), Cameron Jordan (New Orleans) and Bryan Schwenke (Tennessee) with Jordan recording his fifth sack of the campaign. Justin Forsett (Detroit) and Daniel Lasco (New Orleans) are also members of the Lions' and Saints' 53-man rosters but were not active for Week 12 contests.
Jared Goff had a notable performance in a 49-21 Los Angeles loss at New Orleans in his second NFL start Sunday as he threw three touchdowns passes and completed 20-of-32 passes for 214 yards with one interception, while Jackson caught four passes for a season-high 118 yards including his longest reception of the season with a 67-yarder for a touchdown in the Redskins' loss to the Cowboys.
Tyson Alualu (Jacksonville), Chris Harper (San Francisco), Mychal Kendricks (Philadelphia), Jeremy Ross (New York Jets) and Bryce Treggs (Philadelphia) also saw action for losing squads. Steve Williams was inactive for Los Angeles in the Rams' loss at New Orleans.
