MORAGA, Calif. – California's Anna Bright followed in the footsteps of senior teammate Karla Popovic when the freshman captured the top-flight singles and doubles titles at the Saint Mary's Invitational on Sunday at the Timothy Korth Tennis Complex.

Bright teamed with fellow freshman Vivian Glozman to win in doubles, with the top-seeded Bears defeating UC Santa Barbara's third-seeded Elizaveta Volodko and Lise Sentenac, 8-4. In her other Sunday final, the second-seeded Bright beat the Gaels' fourth-seeded Maria Kozyreva, 6-4, 4-6, 6-4, in singles.

Jasie Dunk, another Cal freshman, won the B Singles final, with the seventh-seeded Bear beating Eastern Washington's Rylee Braeden, 6-2, 6-3.

"We're very pleased with their progress," Cal head coach Amanda Augustus said of her first-year Bears. "All three of them took another step forward in their development this weekend. We really felt the team as a whole competed hard and got better this weekend. They've only been in two tournaments, and they took what they learned from last weekend at the Cal Fall Invitational and the work we did this past week and put it into this tournament. They've settled into the rhythm of being a Cal student-athlete and being on our team. We couldn't be happier with where they're at.

"We'll definitely use this to keep building, and we'll have a good week and a half before the regional event to do that."

The complete scores from the Saint Mary's Invitational are available here.

Last season, Popovic won the top-flight singles and with Olivia Hauger won the top-flight doubles titles in the Gaels' tournament. This year the Bears' veterans competed in the Riviera ITA All-American Championships instead of in Moraga.

The Bears young and old will be together again when they compete in the ITA Northwest Regional Championships from Oct. 19-23 at Stanford.
