Wong Joins Bears Men’s Gym

BERKELEY California men's gymnastics head coach JT Okada announced the addition of talented newcomer Darren Wong for the 2018-19 class who hails from Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada, Thursday, during the National Signing period.

Wong is a member for the Canadian National Team, travelling internationally to compete for his native country. He will join Aaron Mah, also a member of the Canadian team, next season.

"I'm very excited to be joining the men's gym team at UC Berkeley," said Wong. "Gymnastics is a demanding sport, requiring gymnasts to be both physically and mentally prepared. I have learned a lot from my experiences from both sides of the preparation and am looking forward to contributing to the team."

The incoming gymnast, who signed a National Letter of Intent, won on floor and parallel bars at the Elite Canada Junior Championships in 2016, to take second place in the all-around, but enjoys competing on the rings as well.

"Darren brings in an international gymnastics look and skillset. We're excited about that and believe he will fit in perfectly with the Golden Bears gymnastics family," Okada said. "We're happy to have him and believe he will help take our team to the next level."
