BERKELEY – The talented California men's tennis recruiting class has earned national notice, as the newest group of Golden Bears claimed the No. 1 spot in TennisRecruiting.net's 2017 Winter Recruiting Class Rankings.

Head coach Peter Wright and associate head coach Tyler Browne signed the class of Jacob Brumm, Paul Barretto, Jackson Suh, Ben Draper and Jack Molloy in November, and the young Bears will join the program in the fall of 2017.

The Cal class earned 461 points and eight first-place votes in TennisRecruiting.net's top 25 poll. The Bears edged Florida's class, which garnered 460 points and eight first-place votes. UCLA (433 points, 3 first-place votes) was third.

The incoming Bears join a program that in the spring of 2016 reached the final four of the NCAA team tournament, produced this season's doubles champions (Filip Bergevi and Florian Lakat) from the Saint Francis Health System All-American Championships as well as this year's ITA Northwest Regional singles champ (Andre Goransson), and garnered NCAA recognition for its 100-percent Graduation Success Rate (GSR) for the 2006-09 cohort.

The current Bears are ranked in the top five themselves, as they retained the No. 4 spot in the Oracle/ITA Rankings that came out on Wednesday.

Cal (2-0) is coming off of sweeping its opponents in the ITA Kick-Off Weekend at the Hellman Tennis Complex and advancing to the ITA National Men's Team Indoor Championship slated for Feb. 17-20 in Charlottesville, Virginia.
