HONOLULU – Cal freshman Anna Bright won again in singles on Monday at the Weinman Foundation Invitational to capture a share of the White Flight singles title as the tournament came to an end at the University of Hawaii Tennis Complex. The first-year Bear shared the title with Texas A&M's Macarena Olivares.

On Monday, Bright, ranked 27th, defeated Hawaii's Marina Hruba, 6-2, 6-0, junior Maria Smith beat UH's Klara Pribylova, 6-3, 6-1, freshman Julia Rosenqvist knocked off the Rainbow Wahine's Nicola Dolakova, 7-5, 6-3, and freshman Jasie Dunk topped Hawaii's Taylor Lau, 6-4, 6-1. The Bears lost twice to UH, with senior Audrey Mayer falling to Alzbeta Houbova, 6-3, 6-0, and sophomore Alexis Nelson dropping a 6-2, 5-7, 10-6 result to Roxanne Resma.

In doubles, the pair of Bright and Rosenqvist bested Hawaii's Resma and Petra Melounova, 6-3. But Hauger and Smith suffered their first loss in Honolulu (6-0 to Pribylova and Dolakova), while Nelson and Dunk fell to Houbova and Hruba, 6-2.

The tournament also featured players from TCU, Texas A&M, Washington State and Cal State Northridge competing in singles and doubles. Texas A&M's Domenica Gonzalez and Eva Paalma shared the White Flight's doubles title with Hawaii's Nikola Dolakova and Klara Pribylova.

"It was a good first weekend of matches for us," Cal head coach Amanda Augustus said. "That's what we came here for. It's good to get the spring season going. Almost everyone on the team hadn't seen any match play since early November, so it was important to get back out on the courts. Overall we saw a lot of good things and have things to work on, but it was good for the team to spend some time together and compete before school starts. We will have one more opportunity to do that at home this upcoming weekend. The team did a really god job this weekend, and I'm looking forward for what the season brings the Cal Bears."

The Bears make their 2018 home debut when they host their annual Cal Winter Invitational from Friday through Sunday at the Hellman Tennis Complex and Channing Tennis Courts.
