Second-Half Surge Leads Cal Over Pacific

Kristine Anigwe's 25 Points Help Bears To 81-69 Victory

STANFORD, California – Kristine Anigwe scored 16 of her game-high 25 points in the second half, as No. 23 Cal pulled away for a 81-69 victory over Pacific at Maples Pavilion.

The game was originally scheduled to be played at Haas Pavilion, but was relocated due to air quality concerns in Berkeley.  With the win, Cal improved to 4-0 on the year, while Pacific fell to 1-1.

Anigwe, who also snared 12 rebounds and set a season high with five blocks, registered her fourth double-double in as many games this season, a streak that extends to a career-best five games in a row dating back to last season.

Pacific led 18-12 after one period and opened up a 32-22 lead before the Bears ended the first half on an 11-2 run to trail 34-33. Kianna Smith led the Bears during the opening 20 minutes with 11 points, her second consecutive game in double-figures.

After the break, Asha Thomas hit a layup a minute into the third quarter to put Cal ahead at 35-34, and the Bears rolled on from there. Behind Anigwe's 12 points and four boards, Cal extended its advantage to 56-44 at the end of the quarter, as the Bears outscored the Tigers 23-10 during the period. Anigwe went 7-9 from the floor in the second half, connecting on seven consecutive field goal attempts from early in the third quarter until late in the fourth.

In the fourth quarter, Pacific cut its deficit to as little as four points at 58-54, before a layup by Anigwe and 3-pointer from Thomas extended Cal's lead to 63-54. Soon the margin reached double figures again to give the Bears some breathing room.

Kianna Smith added 18 points for the Bears, while Thomas finished with 15 points, shooting 4-for-4 from the field, including 3-for-3 from 3-point range, and added six assists.

The Bears will now head south for Thanksgiving, participating in the University of San Diego Thanksgiving Tournament hosted at Jenny Craig Pavilion. The Golden Bears will take on Tulane (3-0, 0-0 AAC) at 4 p.m. PT on Friday, November 23, before a 4 p.m. PT meeting with San Diego (1-2, 0-0 WCC) on Saturday afternoon.
