Cal-Stanford Postgame Notes

  • Evan Weaver and Jordan Kunaszyk both cracked Cal's single-season top 10 list for tackles. Weaver finished the day with 15 and now boasts 143 for the season, which ranks fourth on the list. Jerrott Willard (1993) is third with 147, David Ortega is second with his 159 in 1989 and Hardy Nickerson tops the chart with 167 tackles in 1985. Kunaszyk's five tackles give him 133 on the year, which ranks tied for eighth with Willard's 1992 total.
  • Kunaszyk also now boasts 258 tackles for his career, which ranks tied for 10th on the school's career list with Donnie McCleskey (2002-05).
  • Weaver also notched his ninth game this season with double-digit tackles.
  • With their 20 combined tackles today, Weaver and Kunaszyk set the school single-season record for combined tackles by a duo. They currently boast 276 on the season, breaking the previous record of Steve Hendrickson (134) and David Ortega (132) and their combined 266 in 1988.
  • In the fourth quarter, Kunaszyk forced his fifth fumble this season that was recovered by Siulagisipai Fuimaono, the first of his career.
  • Patrick Laird's 62-yard run is the second longest of his career. His longest was 73 yards against Weber State last year. The play is also Cal's longest play from scrimmage this season. Laird recorded his second 100-yard rushing performance this season and the seventh of his career.
  • Laird logged 116 rushing yards this afternoon after picking up 153 in the 2017 Big Game. Laird is the first Cal running back to rush for 100 yards in back-to-back Big Games since Marshawn Lynch in 2004 and 2005.
  • With his four receptions today, Laird set the school record for receptions in a season by a running back, now with 50, surpassing the previous record of 49 (Paul Jones, 1979).
  • Cal has successfully converted its last nine consecutive fourth-down attempts dating back to the Oregon State game.
  • Camryn Bynum notched his team-leading eighth and ninth pass breakups in the second quarter.
  • Lone Toailoa registered his first career sack in the second quarter.
  • Jordan Duncan hauled in his fourth receiving touchdown of the season in the fourth quarter. That ties him with Laird for the team lead
  • Today's attendance of 57,857 was the most at a Big Game since Oct. 20, 2012, in Berkeley (61,024). It was the most at a Cal home game since Grambling State on Sept. 5, 2015 (60,606).
