Cal-San Jose State Postgame Quotes

California Head Coach Wyking Jones

Overall thoughts:
"I'm very happy with the win. It felt like it was a complete team effort, which is always what you want. Paris Austin stands out to me. We've been talking about sharing the ball and playing as a team. He epitomized that tonight with 11 assists and no turnovers. He didn't care about his scoring, he just wanted to make sure he did his job and took care of his teammates. That's something we've been preaching, and it's nice to see him go out and accept that challenge…Overall just happy with the win and to end the game with 20 assists."

On second-half defense:
"We talked about it at halftime…they were too comfortable in the first half….The defensive pressure was not there. I said miss or make, let's pick up full court…let's make them play under duress with some heat. We did that and that really sparked us. It gave us more energy, more life on the defensive end but also on the offensive end."

Sophomore Guard Darius McNeill

On his shooting performance:
"I felt the relief. The first half, it wasn't falling. The coaches kept telling me to have confidence in shooting the ball. Paris kept feeding me…He just kept passing it and I kept knocking it down."

On shooting mentality through slump:
"My teammates just kept telling me to shoot it, and I know my work ethic, so I wanted to just keep my follow-through up and keep shooting."

Freshman Forward Andre Kelly

On offense in transition:
"We're a good team in transition. We have a lot of athletic guys, a lot of fast people and a lot of guys who do different things well. For us in transition, it's hard for some teams to stop us. We have a lot of different weapons."
