Cal-Arizona Postgame Notes

  • Cal featured a new starting lineup with the return of Paris Austin, who missed two games with an ankle sprain. Starters – Austin, Darius McNeill, Matt Bradley, Justice Sueing and Connor Vanover.
  • Vanover's 2 steals marked a new career high. He recorded a steal just one other time this season, with one steal at UCLA.
  • McNeill went 3-12 from downtown, his sixth consecutive game connecting on a 3-pointer. It was his seventh game of the season with 3 or more 3-pointers.
  • Sueing led the Bears with a career-high-tying 27 points (8-13 FG, 2-5 3P, 9-10 FT). He also had 27 points at Washington State last year. In three career games against Arizona, he is averaging 21.0 ppg after scoring 19 points vs. the Wildcats in Berkeley and 19 points in Tucson last season.
  • When Sueing missed a free throw on his first attempt of the night, it broke a streak of 27 consecutive makes at the line that dated back to the Dec 15 Cal Poly game. He then made his next nine attempts vs. Arizona.
  • Vanover finished with 7 points, his fifth straight game with at least 7 points – a total he did not reach in any of his eight games this year.
  • Cal grabbed 14 offensive rebounds and converted them into 14 second-chance points. Vanover and Suing led the way with three offensive boards each.
