Weinberg Tabbed MPSF Newcomer Of The Week

Three Bears Have Earned Honor In Consecutive Weeks

WOODLAND, Calif. – California freshman goalkeeper Adrian Weinberg was named the Mountain Pacific Sports Federation/KAP7 Newcomer of the Week on Monday, marking the third straight week that a Bear has earned the honor.
 
Weinberg played a key role in Cal's 10-8 overtime victory at San Jose State on Saturday with 12 saves against 20 shots. The freshman rose to the occasion in the match's most critical stretch, tallying three saves while holding the Spartans scoreless during two overtime periods.
 
Cal has won three of the five possible newcomer of the week honors this season; Weinberg joined Jasmin Kolasinac (Sept. 23) and Nikolaos Papanikolaou (Sept. 30) as recipients of the award.
 
In his first collegiate season, Weinberg has emerged as one of the league's top young players. The Oak Park, Calif., product leads the MPSF and is tied for ninth nationally with 127 total saves. He has additionally recorded 10 or more saves in six different matches while earning 14 starts.
 
Weinberg and the Bears (10-5) will host Pepperdine at noon on Saturday, Oct. 12 at Spieker Aquatics Complex in Berkeley.
