Bears Start All-American Main Draws Wednesday
BERKELEY – Anna Bright and
Jasie Dunk will represent Cal women's tennis in the ITA All-American Championships main draws starting Wednesday in Tulsa, with the Golden Bears competing in doubles and with Bright playing in singles at the national tournament at the Case Tennis Center at Lafortune Park

In singles, Bright – who's ranked 42nd – will take on N.C. State's 40th-ranked Alana Smith at 11:30 a.m. CT. The 13th-ranked Dunk and Bright will face Mississippi's 17th-ranked Alexa Bortles and Sabina Machalova in the doubles opening round of 32 at 3 p.m. CT.

A third Bear –
Erin Richardson – attempted to join Bright in the singles main draw. The freshman won her first qualifying singles match on Monday, beating Syracuse's 81st-ranked Sofya Golubovskaya, 6-2, 6-4. But Richardson fell on Tuesday to Georgia's 69th-ranked Meg Kowalski, 6-1, 6-2, and did not advance.

Last Year In The ITA All-American Championships
Cal's
Anna Bright and
Julia Rosenqvist advanced out of qualifying singles to reach the main draw of the 2018 ITA All-American Championships, with Bright beating UNLV's 49th-ranked Aiwen Zhu, 6-3, 6-3, and Rosenqvist defeating the 43rd-ranked Maria Kononova of North Texas, 6-0, 6-4, to qualify.

They faced veteran competition in the main draw opening round of 32, with the 29th-ranked Bright falling to 2017 All-American champion and seventh-ranked Fernanda Contreras of Vanderbilt, 6-4, 6-2, and Rosenqvist losing to Syracuse's fifth-ranked Gabriela Knutson, 6-4, 6-2.

Cal earned four spots in the ITA preseason rankings this fall. In singles, juniorÂ
Julia Rosenqvist – who played in the 2019 NCAA Singles Championship and had a 24-18 record last year – is ranked 24th; she ended last season ranked 40th.Â
Anna Bright, another junior who had a 27-10 record and a final ranking of 74th, last season is now ranked 42nd. The pair of Bright and juniorÂ
Jasie Dunk (17-10 in 2018-19) is ranked 13th and the new duo of Rosenqvist and freshmanÂ
Haley Giavara is ranked 44th in doubles. Last season, Dunk and Bright had a No. 49 final ranking.
