Bears Ready For Big Match Against Stanford

Men's And Women's Golf Programs Team Up For Rivalry Showdown

Story Links

BERKELEY – After a thrilling victory in the inaugural Big Match in 2018, Cal's men's and women's golf teams will be looking for a repeat performance in the encore on Wednesday at Menlo Country Club.

The Bears will take on Stanford in a unique rivalry format in which each school's men's and women's programs will combine to play a four-ball tournament, with each team fielding six mixed twosomes. Last year, Cal and the Cardinal went to a second playoff hole before the Bears claimed victory.

The first group tees off at 11:45 a.m. with each succeeding foursome teeing off in 12-minute increments.

One point will be awarded for each of the six head-to-head matchups. The score will be determined by the lowest scoring member of each pair on each hole. The team that wins the most holes wins the match.
