Bears Cruise To Third Straight Win To Open The Season

  • Tonight's game was the first of four contests the Bears will play as part of the 2K Empire Classic benefitting Wounded Warrior Project. Cal will host Prairie View A&M Monday, then play Duke and either Texas or Georgetown Nov. 21-22 at Madison Square Garden in New York.
  • With the 82-62 win, Cal improved to 3-0 for the first time since 2015-16 when the Bears got out to a 4-0 start to the year.
  • Grant Anticevich scored a career-high 23 points (9-11 FG, 5-5 3P), breaking his previous best of 13 (vs. San Diego State on Dec. 8, 2018) on a 3-pointer with 10:58 left in the first half.
  • Anticevich tied the Cal record for best 3-point shooting percentage in a game, going 5-for-5 from behind the arc. Amit Tamir vs. Arizona State in 2003 and Eric Vierneisel vs. Washington in 2008 also went 5-for-5.
  • Matt Bradley reached double figures for the third time this season, finishing with 16 points. He's now averaging 21.3 ppg.
  • With the scored tied at 42-42 with 17:59 left in the second half, Cal went on a 26-6 run to open a 68-48 lead with 9:36 to go.
  • Cal has shot at least 50% from the floor in all three games this season – 57.1% vs. CBU, 57.4% vs. Pepperdine and 50.9% vs. UNLV. The Bears shot 68.0% from the floor in the second half (17-25).
  • Kareem South scored 10 points to reach double figures for the third straight game.
  • D.J. Thorpe made his Cal debut with 2:35 left in the game.
  • Cal has not led at halftime of its first three games before ultimately winning – down, 37-35, vs. Pepperdine (won, 87-71), down, 40-38, vs. UNLV (won, 79-75 OT), and tied with California Baptist (40-40).
