Cal-Prairie View A&M Postgame Quotes
Â
California Head Coach Mark Fox
Â
Overall thoughts:
"Let me first say that we have a lot of respect for Prairie View. They had a terrific team a year ago. They understand winning. They play super hard. I thought they played more determined basketball today than we did. I thought we were poorly coached today, I thought we played poorly, and two wrongs make a wrong. We were fortunate to escape with a win but we have to play better basketball than we played today."
Â
On how his team accounts for the sloppiness on offense:
"Let's give their team credit for their defense, but let's also be honest with ourselves and I think that because we have been so good offensively that we felt like we could shoot our way to victory. You have to do more things than just shoot jumpers to win. Hopefully we learned that lesson today in a close one because I felt like that was our mentality offensively and that's not how you win. Hopefully some days you can win because you make jump shots but that's not the only thing that matters in the game and I felt like we had a little bit of an immature approach offensively and our decisions with the basketball. We were not very good today."
Â
On if he felt the guys were hesitant to get the ball inside:
"I don't think we ever really demanded the ball inside with positioning. I think we don't look inside enough… I don't think we are looking in there enough. I don't think we are posting physically enough — at least today. I am not saying that we have done that the entire year but we did not play well offensively. This was attention-getting for hopefully our players and hopefully we can learn from it."

California Sophomore Guard Matt Bradley
Â
On Cal's number of turnovers:
"Things weren't going our way. A lot of careless plays. We have to step it up. We fought it out and ended up winning. I'm proud about that"
Â
On Prairie View's rebounding:
"They came out and played extremely hard. There were times we didn't match their intensity, which was a problem. We should've grabbed more rebounds, but give credit to them– they played hard."
Â
On Getting the win despite sloppy play:
"It's a testament to how hard we've worked. That team played really hard. Nothing was going our way offensively or defensively. But we stuck it out and ended up winning. We're 4-0 right now– I'm happy to say that."
Â
California Freshman Guard Joel Brown
Â
On tonight's play:
"We were in a rush at times. You have to give credit to their defense. We are fortunate to win this game. We have to grow and get better from this one."
Â
On upcoming trip to New York:
"We are excited. We haven't talked about it too much yet. We're going to move on from this and get prepared for what's next."
