Zhu Sits At 5-Over Par Heading Into Final Round
KAILUA KONA, HI. - Sophomore Katherine Zhu continued to be the Cal women's golf team's top finisher at the Pac-12 Preview on Tuesday and now sits at 5-over par heading into the final round at the Nanea Golf Club.
After shooting an even-par 73 in Monday's first round, Zhu carded a 78 on Tuesday and is in a tie for 32nd overall. Zhu and Oregon's Ching-Tzu Chen are 11 strokes behind tournament leader Rino Sasaki of Washington.
As a team, the Bears sit in a tie for 10th place with Washington State at 33-over par.
Senior Maria Herraez Galvez had the best second-round performance for the Golden Bears, carding a 4-over par 77 to put her at 8-over for the tournament and tied with three others in 42nd place. Freshman Tzu-Yi Chang is one stroke behind at 9-over par.
"Golf has its ups and downs and today was collectively not our best performance," Cal head coach Nancy McDaniel said. "As easy as that happens, we are fully capable of turning it around tomorrow and closing out the fall season strong, giving us a confidence boost for spring."
The Pac-12 Preview is an annual fall event that features all 11 teams in the conference that sponsor women's golf along with host Hawai'i.
Wednesday's final round gets started with a shotgun start at 9:30 a.m. PT.
