Mirkovic Named AVCA Pacific North All-Region
The Junior Grabs Another National Honor.
LEXINGTON, Ky. – California junior
Mima Mirkovic was named to the AVCA Pacific North All-Region First Team,
as announced by the American Volleyball Coaches Association on Tuesday.
It's the first AVCA All-Region honor for Mirkovic after she was named to the All-Pac-12 Conference Team on December 3. An Irvine, California native, Mirkovic stuffed the stat sheet throughout the season for the Bears.
"It's a great honor for Mima to be recognized as a member of the 2019 All-Region Team," Cal head coach
Sam Crosson said. "She played an important role in our program's growth this year, had some impressive individual performances throughout the conference season, and will continue to work on raising the bar for herself and the Cal program going forward."
As a six rotation outside hitter, Mirkovic led the team with a 3.28 kills per set average. She finished eighth in the conference in the category and led Cal with 325 kills on the season, falling just six kills short of reaching 1,000 in her career after missing four matches down the final stretch of the season.
Mirkovic is Cal's first All-Region honoree since Lillian Schonewise received back-to-back honorable mention recognition in 2014-15 and is the first Bears to earn first team honors since Christina Higgins in 2013.
The three-year starter was named the AVCA National Player of the Week on Oct. 22 and the Pac-12 Offensive Player of the Week, following back-to-back double-doubles, including a 19 kill and season-high 20 dig effort in a win over Colorado. She finished tied for eighth in the Pac-12 with 13 double-doubles on the season and second on the team with 289 digs.
