Jared Horn Wins Pac-12 Pitcher Of The Week
The Right-Hander's 1.79 ERA is second in the Pac-12 and 15th In The Nation
Cal right-hander
Jared Horn was named the Pac-12 Pitcher of the Week after shutting down No. 3 Stanford with seven scoreless innings on Saturday.
It's the second time Horn has been voted the award this season, as the junior from Napa has emerged as one of the Pac-12's most dominant starting pitchers.
He allowed just three hits Saturday, and not until the seventh inning did the Cardinal advance a runner past first base against him. It was the fifth win in the past six starts for Horn, whose 1.79 ERA ranks second in the Pac-12 and 15
th nationally.
After being sidelined for the season's first month following an appendectomy, Horn gradually built up his arm strength and has become Cal's ace as the Bears are making a strong push for their first NCAA postseason appearance since 2015.
Stanford is the second top-five team that Horn has defeated this season. He also beat No. 1 UCLA on April 19 in Los Angeles, when he struck out a career-high 10 over 8 1/3 innings. Notably, his win over UCLA came a day after the Bears suffered a tough walk-off defeat. And he beat Stanford a day after Cal let a lead slip away in a 10-7 loss.
Overall, Horn is 5-1 with the 1.79 ERA, allowing just 43 hits and 16 walks in 60 1/3 innings over 10 starts.
