Nicklaus Award Finalist Is Latest Honor For Morikawa
Cal’s National Player Of The Year Candidate Continues To Rack Up The Honors
NORMAN, Okla. – Cal's National Player of the Year candidate
Collin Morikawa has been named one of five national finalists for the 2019 Division I Jack Nicklaus National Player of the Year Award presented by Barbasol.
The five recipients of the honor – one each from the NCAA Division I, II and III levels, as well as the NAIA and NJCAA – will be announced May 30 with the honor being presented by award namesake Jack Nicklaus at a ceremony during the final round of the Memorial Tournament presented by Nationwide. The five recipients will compete June 1 in the Barbasol Shootout at The Ohio State University Golf Club's Scarlet Course with the winner receiving an exemption into the PGA TOUR's Barbasol Championship to be held June 18-21 at the Champions at Keene Trace in Lexington, Ky.

Collin Morikawa, 5-9, 170, Sr., 3L, La Cañada Flintridge, CA (La Cañada HS)
- A National Player of the Year candidate who has a long list of 2018-19 honors including his selections as Ben Hogan Award, Byron Nelson Award and Jack Nicklaus Award finalists, as well as a top-five selection of the final Haskins Award watch list and Pac-12 Men's Golfer of the Year
- Has five collegiate victories including a pair in 2018-19 at the Pac-12 Championships and The Farms Invitational
- Finished tied for seventh or better in each of his first 10 events and tied for 14th or better in all 11 of his events in 2018-19, while he has been in the top 20 in each of his last 24 events dating back to his 2016-17 sophomore season
- Third in the nation with a 68.65 stroke average that is only 0.07 behind national leader Matthew Wolff and 0.06 shy of second-place Viktor Hovland, both of Oklahoma State, as well 0.03 better than the all-time single-season NCAA record of 68.68 that Morikawa established as a 2017-18 junior
- Currently the nation's third-ranked collegiate golfer according to both Golfstat and Golfweek/Sagarin
