Duo Garners Honorable Mention From Volleyball Magazine
BERKELEY - Mima Mirkovic and Jordan Polo can add another honor to their laundry list of awards - Volleyball Magazine All-Americans. The duo earned Honorable Mention from the publication.
"Jordan and Mima both had phenomenal seasons this year," Cal head coach Meagan Owusu said. "They excelled both as a pair and individually."
This has been a packed awards season for both Mirkovic and Polo. Mirkovic also earned AVCA All-American honorable mention, was named to the All-Pac-12 First Team and the Pac-12 All-Academic Second Team. Polo was named the Pac-12 Freshman of the Year as well as earning a spot on the All-Pac-12 Second Team and Pac-12 All-Freshman Team.
Mirkovic and Polo played most of the season together at the No. 1 pair, compiling a 15-7 record and vaulting the Golden Bears up the national rankings. The duo's marquee victory came against No. 9 Long Beach State. With the score tied 2-2, the dual came down the third set of the No. 1 match. Mirkovic and Polo took the win, earning Cal its second-ever victory over a top-10 opponent.
That win helped Cal to its most successful season in program history, with the Bears finishing third at the Pac-12 Championship and earning all-time high rankings from both the AVCA and DiG Magazine.
"They are young in their careers and this is just the starting point for them," said Owusu.
