Bears Place Three On All-Pac-12 Team
Sutton, Hurkmans, Gosden-Kaye All Honored
The Cal men's rowing team placed three student-athletes on the 2019 All-Pac-12 Team, with senior
Joachim Sutton earning the honor for the third consecutive year.
Senior
Maarten Hurkmans was named to the team for the second time in his career while senior
Jack Gosden-Kaye garnered the accolade for the first time.
Sutton has been a key contributor to the Bears' success during his career, most recently helping Cal's varsity eight to a second-place finish at the Pac-12 Championships earlier this month. He helped the Bears win both the conference title and IRA national championship in 2017, and picked up a bronze medal in the varsity eight last year at IRAs.
Hurkmans, who was also named to the All-Pac-12 Team in 2017, picks up his second all-conference honor after being named the 2019 Pac-12 Men's Rowing Scholar-Athlete of the Year earlier in the month. Hurkmans was also part of the Bears' varsity eight that took second at Pac-12s this year and has been a stalwart in the boat throughout his career. He is also a three-time Pac-12 All-Academic honoree.
Gosden-Kaye joined Sutton and Hurkmans in taking second at the Pac-12 Championship. Last year, he helped the Bears' second varsity eight take silver at both the conference race and IRAs, and did the same in the first varsity eight at the Pac-12 Championship.
The Bears are busy preparing for the 2019 IRA National Championship, to be held this Friday-Sunday on Lake Natoma.
