SAN FRANCISCO – Cal's National Player of the Year candidate Collin Morikawa picked up another honor on Monday when he was named the Pac-12 Men's Golfer of the Month for April of 2019. Morikawa received the monthly honor from the conference for the fourth time in his career and second time this season. He also captured the honor in both March of 2017 and 2018, as well as September of 2018.

Morikawa became the fourth Cal player to win individual medalist honors at the Pac-12 Championships in April when he played Eugene Country Club in 12-under par and was victorious by four strokes after making birdies on each of his final three holes. Morikawa highlighted his fifth career victory with a third-round seven-under par 64. He also tied for a seventh-place finish earlier in the month at the prestigious Western Intercollegiate. Morikawa had a 68.43 stroke average in April as he played all seven of his rounds during the month in par or better including each of the final six under par.

"Being named the Pac-12 Men's Golfer of the Month for April is a great honor," Morikawa said. "To finish off the regular season strong and have momentum heading into the postseason is great especially with everything on the line at the NCAA Regionals. Closing out the regular season with a win at the Pac-12's will be one of my best memories in college, and I'm looking to making a few more this postseason."

"Winning the Pac-12 title was the biggest victory of Collin's career and one that he will always remember," Cal's Alex and Marie Shipman Director of Men's Golf Walter Chun added. "He's had an incredible career and been incredibly consistent at being on top or near the top of the leaderboard on so many occasions. He had won previously, but he has also had several near misses that he learned from. It all came together at Pac-12's this year, and I'm excited to see what he will do in NCAA play."

Morikawa and the Golden Bears will next play May 13-15 at the NCAA Myrtle Beach Regional with the top five teams and one individual not on those five teams from each of six NCAA Regionals being played across the country advancing to the 2019 NCAA Championships to be played May 24-29 at The Blessings Golf Club in Fayetteville, Ark.
