Bears Place 15 On Pac-12 All-Academic Team

Five Student-Athletes Earn First Team Recognition

BERKELEY – The Cal men's rowing team placed 15 student-athletes on the 2019 Pac-12 All-Academic Team that was released Tuesday, including five First Team selections.

Leading the way is 2019 Pac-12 Men's Rowing Scholar Athlete of the Year Maarten Hurkmans, who earned his second career First Team honor and third overall. Joining him on the First Team are senior Ferdinand Querfeld, who also received his third career honor, as well as sophomores George Finlyason, Nathan Richards and Jack Robertson. It's the first career First Team nod for Querfeld after earning Second Team honors in each of the past two seasons.

Cal's Second Team selections include senior Joachim Sutton, earning his second career accolade, as well as junior Christoph Seifriedsberger and sophomores Hugo Van de Graaf and Alexandr Lilichenko.

Seniors Jack Gosden-Kaye, Hunter Hodges and Elliot Rogers each earned his third straight Pac-12 All-Academic Honorable Mention nod, while junior Sam Champion and sophomores Ethan McCoach and Cameron Smith each received the recognition for the first time.

Hurkmans, Sutton and Gosden-Kaye each also earned All-Pac-12 honors for their performances on the water this season.

The Bears wrapped up the 2019 season last weekend with a third-place finish at the IRA National Championship Regatta. That included a gold medal in the second varsity eight grand final.
