Summer Competition Continues
Golden Bears Set For Racing At World Rowing Cup III
ROTTERDAM, The Netherlands  - A busy summer of international competition continues this weekend as the World Rowing Cup III begins on Friday in Rotterdam, the Netherlands. Will Creedon, Maarten Hurkmans, Joachim Sutton, Niki Van Sprang, Natan Wegrzycki-Szymczyk, and incoming freshman Bastian Secher are set to represent their respective nations at the third of three World Rowing Cup events this summer.

The 2019 Pac-12 Rowing Scholar Athlete of the Year, Hurkmans will be racing in his home country in the Netherlands eight. Hurkmans helped the Netherlands eight to a 7th-place result at the 2018 World Rowing Championships in Plovdiv, Bulgaria, and won a bronze in the this event at last summer's World Rowing Cup III.
Creedon, a rising senior from Denver, will also be racing in the eight, representing the United States. A member of Cal's second varsity eight which took home the Kennedy Cup at the 2019 IRA National Championship Regatta, Creedon won gold in the U.S. coxed four last summer at the Under-23 World Championships in Poland.
A member of Cal's IRA Championship varsity eight in 2016, Van Sprang will be racing for the Netherlands in the double sculls. Van Sprang reached the A Final in this event earlier this summer at the European Championships, finishing fifth overall.
An All-Pac-12 selection for the Bears this season, Sutton will be racing for Denmark in the pair along with Secher, who will be joining Cal in the fall as a freshman. A recent graduate, Sutton has competed for the Danish national team on numerous occasions, including a fifth-place finish in the four at the 2017 World Rowing Championships in Sarasota, Florida. Secher has represented Denmark on numerous occasions on the international stage, most recently finishing eight overall in the coxless four at the 2018 World Rowing Under-23 Championships.
Wegrzycki-Szymczyk, the three-time Pac-12 Rowing Athlete of the Year, rounds out the Cal contingent and will be racing for Poland in the single sculls. Wegrzycki-Szymczyk placed ninth overall in the event at the World Rowing Cup II earlier this summer in Poznan, Poland.
In addition to the upcoming World Rowing events, Olav Molenaar and incoming Bear Balthasar Issa recently competed at Henley Royal Regatta and raced in the final of the Ladies' Plate and Fawley Cup, respectively.
