Nine Bears Named to IRA All-Academic Team
BOSTON, Massachusetts – Nine members of the Cal men's rowing team have earned IRA All-Academic honors, the Intercollegiate Rowing Association Board of Stewards announced this week.
Christoph Seifriedsberger,
Evan Lane,
Ferdinand Querfeld,
George Finlayson,
Hugo van De Graaf,
Jack Gordon,
Jack Robertson,
Maarten Hurkmans, and
Nathan Richards were all recognized for their excellence in the classroom as the Intercollegiate Rowing Association awarded academic honors for the seventh consecutive year.
To be eligible for recognition a student-athlete must have maintained a cumulative GPA of 3.35 or higher, completed one full year at their institution (freshmen and first-year transfers are not eligible), be an institutional letter winner and also competed at the 2019 IRA National Championship Regatta.

Hurkmans, the 2019 Pac-12 Men's Rowing Scholar-Athlete of the Year, earned IRA All-Academic honors for the third consecutive season while classmate Querfeld is also a three-time honoree. Sefriedsberger, a rising senior from Vienna, Austria, was named to the IRA All-Academic team in 2018.
Hurkmans, Finlayson, Richards, Robertson, and Querfeld all earned First Team All-Academic recognition from the Pac-12 earlier this spring while Van de Graaf and Seifriedsberger were Second Team selections.
