Del Mundo Named To TDS Team Of The Week
BERKELEY – Cal men's soccer forward
Alonzo Del Mundo earned his first spot on the TopDrawerSoccer Team of the Week after assisting on all three goals in the Golden Bears' 3-0 victory at UC Santa Barbara on Sept. 7.
Â
The sophomore collected his first assist 45 seconds into the game, as his cross first found freshman forward
Arman Samimi in front of the Gauchos' net, and then Samimi redirected the ball into
Simon Lekressner's path. The senior defender scored his first goal of the season to give the Bears a 1-0 lead. Del Mundo also assisted on Samimi's first collegiate goal in the 14th minute and, via a corner kick, set up junior forward
Tommy Williamson's headed strike in the 39th minute.
Â
Through three games, Del Mundo – with four assists – is tied with Williamson (2 goals) for the team lead in points with four. Del Mundo also assisted on
Paolo Carrillo-Weisenburger's goal in Cal's 1-0 season-opening win over Omaha.
Â
A product of Richmond, California, Del Mundo has already surpassed his assist total from 2018, when he posted one assist along with three goals and seven points in 18 starts.
Â
The 25th-ranked Golden Bears (2-0-1) host American on Friday at 5 p.m. and Denver on Sunday at 12 p.m., with the latter match broadcast on the Pac-12 Networks.
